New Nisa Local store brings fresh focus to Potters Bar
A newly opened Nisa Local in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, is already proving a hit with local residents thanks to a strong product mix, standout chilled offering and an eye-catching in-store ‘Beer Cave’.
Owned and operated by experienced retailer Haydar Arslan, the store recently following a significant six-month project to secure the site. It marks Haydar’s first franchise convenience store, having previously run larger international food centres for over two decades.
The store offers a strong Co-op own-brand range, alongside a broad selection of chilled and frozen lines, with an emphasis on core essentials, meal solutions and meal deals. Early trading figures have shown positive momentum, with weekly turnover steadily increasing as the store becomes more established in the local community.
“We’ve got a bit of everything – core range, fresh, frozen and meal deals,” said Haydar. “Our sandwich and frozen meal deals are already proving popular. It’s a residential area, and people are really starting to enjoy what we offer.”
A standout feature is the store’s dedicated walk-in ‘Beer Cave’, offering a premium chilled alcohol experience that sets it apart from other local retailers.
Looking ahead, Haydar is also keen to get involved in local community initiatives through Nisa’s charity partner model, Making a Difference Locally (MADL).
He plans to support local causes once trading has stabilised, saying: “Giving back is important to me – once the balance picks up, I’ll look to donate to local charities.”
After decades in larger retail operations, Haydar sees the Potters Bar store as a chance to go his own way. “This is my first time running a store like this. It’s a new chapter – one that gives me more time with my family while doing something I love.”
