Dike & Son signs new five-year contract with Co-op Wholesale

Independent supermarket Dike & Son has reaffirmed its long-standing relationship with Co-op Wholesale by signing a new five-year supply agreement.

The much-loved, family-run business has proudly served the community of Stalbridge, Dorset, since 1851, with five generations of the Dike family leading its evolution from a small delivery service to a co-branded 18,000 sq ft Dike & Son / Nisa Extra supermarket. Since moving into its current site in 2007, the store has continued to innovate, expand and invest in its future, while remaining at the heart of the local community.

Dike & Son’s ongoing partnership with Co-op Wholesale enables access to a wide product range via Central Distribution, alongside the Co-op own brand, which is highly valued by customers. This is complemented by a strong local sourcing model, with an extensive range of Direct to Store and regional suppliers showcased in store.

Recent investments have included a complete overhaul of refrigeration to reduce energy consumption and improve sustainability, as well as plans to enhance electric vehicle charging bays and introduce Electronic Shelf Edge Labels (ESELs) to further improve efficiency, availability and margin control.

Andy Dike, Managing Director at Dike & Son, said: “We’re delighted to extend our relationship with Co-op Wholesale. We’ve worked together for many years, and this new long-term agreement reflects our shared commitment to quality, service, and community. With ongoing investments in technology and sustainability, we’re excited about what the next five years will bring for our business and our customers.”

Dike & Son is widely recognised for retail excellence, most recently picking up Drinks Retailer of the Year, Chilled Retailer of the Year and Independent Retailer of the Year at the 2024 Retail Industry Awards.

Paul Webster, Partnerships & Sales Director at Co-op Wholesale, added: “Dike & Son is a shining example of independent retail at its best - combining tradition with innovation, and always putting their community first. We’re proud to continue supporting them as they grow, evolve and serve their customers with excellence. This new agreement cements our shared ambition for the future.”

Dike & Son is also a major contributor to the Co-op Wholesale’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity, having donated more than £120,000 to community projects, sports clubs, hospices and centres.

We’ve worked together for many years, and this new long-term agreement reflects our shared commitment to quality, service, and community.
